Walk-in Treatment Room Times
Newcastle:
Monday - Friday 9.00am until 11.30am
Castlewellan:
Monday Tuesday Wednesday 9.00am until 11.30am
and alternate Thursdays 9.00am until 11.30am
All tests MUST be requested first by the Doctor/Nurse Practitioner.
INR Clinic
The Practice operates and INR clinic every Wednesday morning in Newcastle and Tuesday morning in Castlewellan.
Antenatal Clinic
An antenatal clinic operates in both surgeries at the following times:
Newcastle Surgery
Friday from 2pm until 3.30pm
Castlewellan Surgery
Tuesday from 2pm until 3.30pm
Whooping Cough Vaccinations
Whooping cough vaccinations are advised for pregnant women who are 16 weeks and over. This is to prevent whooping cough in newborn babies.
Asthma/COPD Clinic
Asthma patients can be seen for assessment, education, advice and supervision or alteration of treatment. The aim of this clinic is to diagnose accurately, treat efficiently and get the best possible results, following the British Thoracic Society’s guidelines. The clinic provides individual management plane and follow-up care. Appointments to be made with medical receptionist.
Childhood Immunisation
Our baby clinics are on Tuesdays from 2.00pm until 4.30pm in the Newcastle Surgery, and from 2.00pm until 4.30pm in the Castlewellan Surgery on Wednesdays.
The practice will arrange an appointment for mother and baby to have a six- week check up. The Practice Nurse will not administer immunisations until the GP has completed this.
Below is the time scale for immunisations that are carried out by the Practice Nurse:
- At eight weeks
- Twelve weeks
- Sixteen weeks
- One year
- Three years Four Months - Pre School Vaccination
Diabetic Clinic
The practice provides a diabetic clinic every second and fourth Wednesday of the month in Newcastle, and every second and fourth Thursday of the month in Castlewellan.
The patient is seen by the specialist diabetic nurse, dietician and podiatrist separately at this one stop clinic. The diabetic clinic is strictly appointment only, this is organised by the Specialist Diabetic Nurse and the receptionist.
Flu and Pneumococcal Vaccination
The Practice follows the Department of Health guidelines in recommending influenza and were indicated pneumococcal vaccinations to patients who have the following conditions:
- Patients aged over 65 or over
- A chronic chest condition such as asthma
- A chronic heart condition
- Chronic liver disease
- Chronic kidney disease
- Diabetes
- Lowered immunity due to disease or treatment such as steroids or cancer therapy Any other serious medical condition – check with your doctor if you are unsure
- Also all carers
Shingles Vaccination Programme 2016/17
Shingles vaccines are available for eligible patients born between 2 September 1945 and 1 September 1946. If you were born 2 September 1937 and 1 September 1938 and have not already received the shingles vaccine you are also eligible to receive it.
Protection From Meningitis and Septicemia
From 1 April 2016 as part of the NHS vaccine programme we will be offering a meningococcal ACWY vaccine to patients born between 2 July 1997 and 1 July 1999 as well as first time university students up to the age of 25. This meningococcal ACWY vaccine protects against meningitis (inflammation of the brain)and septicaemia (blood poisoning) caused by meningococcal groups A, C, W and Y.
